What is the DTV ?
The Destination Thailand Visa (VISA) has been introduced and many new people are now residents in Thailand under this visa program. It is a tourist visa allowing foreigners to stay in the country for up to 5 years. Foreigners under this visa can either extend their visa when approaching 180 days in the country for up to one year and then have to leave and re-enter for another year OR leave the country and re-enter every 180 days for a maximum period of 5 years.
Do DTV visa holders need to file a 90-Day Report?
The DTV still being considered as a tourist visa, yes, DTV visa holders are required to file every 90-Day reports if they plan to stay more than 90-Day in the country. Forgetting to file a 90-day report on time can lead to a fine of 2,000 THB. If you are caught by authorities before reporting, the fine can increase to 4,000 THB with an additional fine not exceeding 200 THB for each day which passes until the law is complied with. This fine has to be paid in person at the immigration office and result in not only a loss of 2,000 THB but also a loss of a few hours.
